THE SCIENCE.

YOGA NIDRA means ‘yogic sleep’, unlike traditional ‘sleep’ Yoga Nidra consciously, and progressively, moves us through the same brainwave states:
Waking state/BETA
brain activity 13-30 HZ

Relaxed state/ALPHA
brain activity 13-7 HZ

Dream state/THETA
brain activity 7-3.5 HZ

Deep sleep state/DELTA
brain activity 3.5 > HZ

This practice is unique and powerful because unlike other meditations, your personalized INTENTION, aka SANKALPA, is consciously (and silently) planted in the deep sleep state, where there is no resistance from negative inner chatter and habituated self-limiting beliefs. It focuses attention in the direction you want to grow and develop.

In daily life the INTENTION can be used to redirect your focus and attention whenever you catch yourself caught in a pattern or behavior you have consciously determined you will change. You don’t reprimand yourself for old behaviors expressing, you simply notice them and choose to focus in the direction you want to go.

YOGA NIDRA is customizable, guided meditation that anyone can do, and there is no ‘wrong’ way of doing it. Yoga Nidra is experienced lying down, supported with bolsters and blankets to create a super-comfortable, nurturing space for the body to relax and the mind to calm. The practice may also be experienced in a sitting position if that is more appropriate for the individual.
