LEARN.  GROW.  SHARE.  REPEAT.

February 18, 2019

Training our brains, or in meditation-speak, our minds, takes being aware in the present moment long enough to become aware of what we’re focused on, what thoughts we’re having and how we actually feel. Starting your day with a news feed may not be the best strategy for setting the tone for the day. We have to train our brains to focus on things that inspire, encourage and uplift. This is a key habit to cultivate positive transformation, and is a key component of any leadership strategy.

We all contribute to something that is important to us: our families, friends, community, school and/or work. Lead by example and practice focusing on the positive. It doesn’t mean we ignore the messy, uncomfortable stuff, after all contrast is an important aspect of  learning what to move towards, and away from. Unfortunately, the majority of the news is focused on things that don’t necessarily uplift. Powerful, positive creative insights and effective solutions do not arise out of a mind and body flooded with stress hormones, which is precisely what listening to, reading and watching the news has the potential to do.

Consider starting your day with a short practice of gratitude for all the amazing things you have in your life. Notice how you feel, stay with it until you feel good, great! even. Then go to the news…notice how you feel and what you start thinking about…

Awareness, a key to  conscious living and a path to lasting happiness. Enjoy the journey ?
